14 Mar Poetry In Motion – A Poetic Performance Poetry Film

It’s been an amazing experience working with Gregory Cioffi on the performance poetry film — Poetry In Motion!  Gregory is a director, actor, novelist, poet and educator. He, along with Emily Dinova of G & E Productions, Tom Flynn, the cinematographer, and I had a grand time in June of 2024 when the Acoustic Poets Network LLC and G & E Productions teamed up to co-produce this short film. Gregory curated twelve Long Island poets:  Andre Williams, “Uncle Dre”; Becky Soumakis; Charlene Lawerence; Jacques Squillace; Jay Vegas, from the “Poem Stars”; Jessica Payes, AKA “Stronger Than My Pain”; Jim Coulter, AKA “The Grumpy Grandpa”; Jonathan Gortman, AKA “STEPS”; Kris Janvier; M.T. Pariti, from “The Scene” zine; Quiana Marks, AKA “Q. Imagine”  and himself. Filming was done out in nature at Hempstead Lake Park, NY and at the Lido Beach Passive Nature are in Lido, NY.

I am over the moon that my quote … “I look at ‘Poetry in Motion’ as a preservation project — Gregory’s vision to film our talented Long Island poets preserves this time in history, on film, … It documents the growth of contemporary expressionism on Long Island” was printed in a Long Beach Herald article written by Kepherd Daniel.  Thanks Kepherd!  The film was welcomed with great appreciation by all of the Long Island poets who joined us at the Oceanside Premier. Can’t wait until next year when, Gregory Cioffi and I team up again for a POETRY IN MOTION II.
