About The Author

Paula Curci is the Nassau County Poet Laureate Emerita, for the tenure years of 2022 to 2024. She is a founding member of  Poetry! It’s a “SHORE” Thing!  Open mic, at the Long Beach New York Public Library. Paula is the brainchild of the Micro-Memoir project; an anthology of mini-recollections written by members of Nassau County’s south shore poetry community.

For nearly two decades, Paula has hosted and produced Calliope’s Corner – The Place Where Poets and Songwriters Meet, on 88.7FM Radio Hofstra University. Her radio show is a Press Club of Long Island (PCLI) and Gracie Award-winning poetry and arts program that has featured a wide variety of national and local figures. Paula has also won several Press Club of Long Island accolades for What’s the Buzz®, an informational radio broadcast. 

 

Paula has published several chapbooks: One Woman’s Cathartic Release in Poetry, The Gift of Thanksgiving and Done That: Poetry and Posics™ and Occasion Poems. Her poetry has been featured in a multitude of anthologies:  The Writing Resilience Anthology, The Long Island Quarterly, The Nassau County Poet Laureate Society Review, The PPA Literary Review, What Unites Us, The Wreath of the Golden Laurels,  Nomads Choir, Bards Annual, The Vault’s Soul Fountain, Whispers and Shouts, Writing Outside the Lines, LunaSea Press’ Hysteria, and The National Association of Poetry Therapists’ Poet’s Process, among others. 

 

Paula is a co-founding member of The Acoustic Poets Network© and has pioneered a genre of performance poetry she calls Posics™. Through The APN Paula released three spoken word albums: Emissary, Bittersweet and Done That: Poetry and PosicsThe Audio Version.  Her spoken word poetry can be heard on several compilation CDs: The Vault’s Fear No Art, The Poe Project, The Shakespeare Project, and The Long Island Original Music Association’s LIOMA.

 

As a school counselor for over thirty years, Paula has spearheaded several service-learning programs, including the award-winning Learning and Understanding through Video (LUV) productions, the Sisters Office Worker Program, and her successful Poetry Club.  As a former member of the Nassau County Human Rights Commission’s Youth Conference Committee and as a former drug-free school committee chairperson, she impacted thousands of adolescents through youth development programming, including FCCLA, Peer Helpers, Key Club, and SADD. Paula was the chairperson of the Nassau Counselors’ Association’s Counselor, Parent and Administrators Conference Committee, and was honored by the Nassau Counselors’ Association as one of their “School Counselors of the Year.” In 2025, she was granted a lifetime membership. She is also a March of Dimes Golden Apple Award-winner and a recipient of The Vault’s Guardian Angel Award. 

 

Paula has been facilitating introspective writing workshops for over 40 years. Paula officially blended her talents in poetry and counseling in 2023 and became a Journal to the Self ® Certified Journal Writing Instructor and moderates free-verse introspective writing workshops at the Long Beach, NY, Library and the Power of Poetry events at the Uniondale, NY Library. She also moderates a classical poetry discussion group at the Port Washington Library, NY.

Paula serves as an Advisor to several arts organizations: the Celebrated Authors of NYS’s Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, the Caribbean American Poetry Association, and Artists in Partnership, and is a board member for The Hope For the Children Foundation. In 2026, Paula was honored as the Long Island Ambassador for Literature by the Long Island Poetry and Literature Repository.

 

Paula received an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Communications from Adelphi University. She holds a Master’s in School Counseling Education and an Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from Long Island University.

 

Paula is frequently found reciting her poetry at events on Long Island, and at her own APN-sponsored programs, at the Hicksville Library, or at the Poetry: It’s a “Shore” Thing!  open mic in Long Beach.  She currently resides in Long Beach, New York.
